Callingwood Road Church is a diverse worshipping community. We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in Canada, but we come from many backgrounds, faiths and no faiths…the common thing is our love for God and for one another.
We believe that Jesus Christ is good news for the world. That is why our purpose as a church is to know Jesus and to make Jesus known. We love God, the Scriptures, the Spirit, and the community we are a part of. And we try hard to be a community in which we love one another.
Why do we have churches? We believe that the church exists to join with God in seeing His kingdom come. His kingdom is what it looks like when God gets his way. We want to be a community that prays and works so that this hope becomes a reality in our city.
How do we think this might happen? Well, it must be something He does, rather than something we do. So, it all begins with an encounter with Him. That’s why we think it is important to know Jesus. As we do we learn what it means to follow Jesus, to shape our lives after Jesus’ teaching, and do the things he did. This makes our lives different and far fuller and satisfying. From this new reality Jesus is made known in our families, schools, workplaces and community.
Why a Presbyterian church? Well, that is who we are. One family or tribe in the larger Christian family. To be Presbyterian describes that we are led by elders. More importantly it points to three foundations:
- we are Christian, believers in Jesus -our King and Head – holding to the teachings and practices of the church as found in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
- we are Evangelical, proclaiming in word and works the good news of Jesus and the Kingdom of God.
- we are Reformed, finding our doctrinal heritage in the confessions of the Reformation and the early church.
